Free 6 hour Treaty Course
This course is a brief introduction to the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications.
The main purposes are:

  1. to increase understanding of the Treaty by providing basic information about why it was written and what it says
  2. to address common misunderstandings

An outline of course content
o opening, introductions, housekeeping
o different ways of seeing things – the ‘wave’
o setting the context
o reasons for a Treaty
o British intervention, incl the Declaration of Independence
o what the Treaty says
o colonisation
o redress, including settlements
o Treaty today
o personal responses

Free 12 hour Treaty Course

This course expands on what is offered in the 6 hour course.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:
· describe the motivations of the British Crown & the hapu for having a Treaty
· explain Treaty articles and principles
· understand the consequences of what happened after the signing
· consider the application of Te Tiriti in your own life today
