The speeches and organisational stories from this national conference are a unique record of bicultural and multi-cultural work in this country at the turn of the millenium. This 500-page volume documents the work of the Programme on Racism of the Conference of Churches and many other Pakeha groups active in support of the Treaty of Waitangi.
It covers a critical period in New Zealand’s race relations, and a seven-page annotated contents list makes the collection easy to use.
Media and te Tiriti o Waitangi 2007 By Kupu Taea, a group of Auckland media researchers Published in 2008.
This 54-page report analyses a random sample of two week's television news and newspaper coverage of Treaty and Maori issues in 2007. It identified continued use of negative themes about Maori in mass news items; a marked contrast in news values, themes and representations of Maori between Maori news and mass news programmes; direct health impacts of negative media coverage on Maori; and continued low use of te reo Maori in newspapers. This 40-page report analyses a random sample of two week's television news and newspaper coverage of Treaty and Maori issues in 2004. It identified a range of negative themes about Maori, and ways in which the media promoted Pakeha sources and concepts at the expense of Maori sources and te reo. Downloads are available here.

This kit has been designed to provide simple, accurate information in plain English about the Treaty of Waitangi for recent migrants. It includes 29 activities with hand-outs, overheads, worksheets and cards, as well as notes for facilitators. It would work best with a group of people considering the Treaty together.
The kit was produced with financial and other support by the Human Rights Commission, the AWEA, the Federation of WEAs, and the JR McKenzie Trust.
