A brief timeline of social welfare in Aotearoa/New Zealand

This paper shows the development of a Social Welfare system in Aotearoa and makes connections between the economic and social policies of today and the policies of the last 150 years. It also explores how the position of Maori people within this system has largely been dictated by those who benefited most from the unjust alienation of Maori land. The timeline ranges from 1846 to 1991
