Treaty Courses
We can facilitate Treaty courses for organisations in Tāmaki Makaurau. The courses we have available are;
Making sense of the Treaty (3, 6 or 12hrs): This course is a brief introduction to support putting the Treaty of Waitangi into practice in an organisation. The main purposes are to increase understanding of the Treaty, especially why it was written, what it says, what went wrong and where we are today and to address common misunderstandings.
Making sense in Social Services (4 hrs): This course provides an overview of the main points about Te Tiriti which affect putting it into practice in the social services. The main purposes are to increase understanding of the Treaty, especially why it was written and what it says. Address common misunderstandings and increase understanding about what Treaty application is and isn’t.
Treaty Application (3 or 6 hrs): The course is a brief introduction to support putting the Treaty of Waitangi into practice. The main purposes are to review implications of basic Treaty knowledge for practice and to introduce ideas to inform practice
Cultural Competence (4 hrs): This course is an introduction to the concept of cultural competence (the terms cultural competence, cultural safety, kawa whakaruruhau, culturally inclusive are often used interchangeably; similarities and differences amongst them will be discussed) and its implications for practice. The main purposes are to locate cultural competence in the context of the Treaty of Waitangi. Increase understanding of what the concept does and doesn’t include and to identify strategies for promoting culturally inclusive practices.
Equity (3 hrs): This course is an introduction to the concept of ‘equity’ and its implications for practice. This course is an introduction to the concept of ‘equity’ and its implications for practice. The main purposes are to increase understanding of what the concept does and doesn’t include and to indentify strategies for promoting equity.
